The Base Trace Issue - More info?? Posted by ALPhantom
I felt maybe a bit on information in the community would bring us to grab knowledge and each other on prevention and helping the issue down 6ft under.
So I would like to inform a huge newer issue. Its been brought among us years ago. It was brought years ago when people traced off a artist Rion Vernon. Vernon made pin-up drawings, which infulenced tracing to make "pin-up" bases and dolls. The bases were very popular until Vernon got upset over the disrepect the basemakers and dollers gave on his works, giving the dolling communtiy a very disrepectful look amoung the artists like him.
This issue was brought back when people traced off of images from animes such as "Naruto" or "Sailor Moon". This is an issue due to not just disrepect, but copyright violation among the anime and companys(Fundimation, Geonon(sp??), VIZ, etc). These bases pretty much say "GIVE ME A LAWSUIT PLEASE!!" with shame for the dollers, especially base makers that spend their hours creating a base hand-drawn for use under their permission.
Since these factors, I have felt since this issue is big, I brought the fact that bases and dolls made on traced base from copyrighted images are not to be put in the gallery under your protection, not to be an asshole.
In also that, its also another reason why i have opened a "base list", to put down alternatives to used instead of them traced hassles.
So who does traced bases? What should you keep an eye out on? well, they are usually based off of anime pics. some of them are not best, since the pics are from CLOTHED characters. some makers keep the hair on (BLACH!). Some of the bases makers even put the original pics they are traced from, and even say if its traced.
What do you have to do. Just a simple answer: DON'T DO IT! If you see a traced base, think about that lawsuit you can have in hand.
Heres some good ways you can also get youself from using it:
- Go to another place and find a base like that traced base BUT not traced, but made %100 by that basemaker.
- Make your own base from scratch! If you do bases, you can get good with drawing AND others will use that base too!
So that is the Issue report! I hope we all can keep safe and keep dolling the way we've done it though the years!
