Stealing Palletes - Is it actually true? Posted by ALPhantom
I have been on the dolling fourms of late, and it seems to be a big issue on "pallete theft". Today, I am here to inform you on this issue and the truth on this matter.
--------------- What is a "Pallete"?
A pallete is a series of colors that artists use to create shade, lighting, texture, and many other uses to put out the color they present in their works. Some use it even to create the mood of a picture, and in dollers, we use the to create our dolls.
Where do you find palletes?
Palletes are found in everything, some are hard or easier to see due to the shading techniques they use. Everyone uses palletes in dolling, even if you just put the colors straight on the dolls.
Palletes are also presented on others sites, such as Xandorra's or Watermelon bubblegum. These pallets are called "Premade palletes" and are for the use of others, and very good tools for people starting out.
What is Pallete theft?
Pallete theft is taking palletes used on others works and using them for your own dolls, art, etc. Sorta works like art theft, but with just mutiple colors.
Pallete theft is not seeing the colors and wanting to make similar for your own work, this is called "inspiration". Inspiration is created around us and by anything, including the colors of the rainbow. If you use colors similar to the ones used in something else, its not considered stealing. Compare it to wanting to doll ringlets because another person did. Is it stealing because you did the same, even though you did them differently? No. Its inspiration!
Are all palletes owned?
Nope! No color in any way or range of them is owned. If you have noticed, there has been multiple people that have used black-to-green or purple-to-yellow palletes. Thats because colors in anyway are for artists use. If they were owned, there would be no such thing as art )or dolling for our matter.)
Though taking colors without permission directly from dolls and artworks is not something I would do, simply because it is part of the works of that doll or artwork.
So is there really theft or greed and/or paranoia in all of this?
This is more of an opinionated question.
If you hear from me, I think its more of greed and paranoia. If you were to hear from another, they would probably say otherwise.
This question is all up to you to answer!
