I feel that the pin up club owes quite a bit to Bettie Page, one of the most prominent pinup models of the 1950s, and arguably the most influential pinup girl since Evelyn Nesbit and the Gibson Girl created in her image. Bettie Page, born on April 22nd, 1923, was a college-educated pinup and bondage model throughout the 1950s. She appeared in Playboy in January of 1955, and was named Miss Pinup Girl of the World that same year. After joining a Baptist ministry in 1960, she retired from modeling and shied away from the spotlight until the 1980s, when she consented to a few interviews.
Though only active for a short time, her attitude and look has influenced pinup art and photography for nearly 60 years, and her image has become the paradigm of rockabilly fashion.
