Okay, we have a couple of house-cleaning matters that need to be taken care of...
The purpose of this club was to provide a place for artists to advance both their coloring and line art skills. Lately, I've been seeing a lot of what simply isn't line art. Pencil sketches, fully-shaded pencil pieces... These are not line art.
Wikipedia defines line art as such:
"Line art is any image that consists of distinct straight and curved lines placed against a (usually plain) background, without gradations in shade (darkness) or hue (color) to represent two-dimensional or three-dimensional objects. Line art can use lines of different colors, although line art is usually monochromatic."
And there you have it. Guys, there are six moderators sifting through a club gallery of over 500 people. Please, please, PLEASE read the rules on the front of the club before submitting something that has not been defined as line art. It isn't fair to the mods, and it isn't fair to the members who are here to color lines.
Things which are acceptable:
1. Line art you have created
2. Line art you have colored, as long as the original line art is already in the Coloring Book Club's gallery
This weekend when I have a spare moment I'm going to try and go through the gallery and take down all the pieces that do not fall under the guide lines of this club. It's gotten way out of hand.
Well it's fine if your line art isn't perfect. I was mainly irritated with people who submit full pencil pieces... it sort of defeats the purpose of the club, yanno? Line art should be something that you can color without having to erase predefined gradients and shading.
I can't help but feel a bit guilty over this. When I saw the club, I joined immediately because I wanted to submit some line arts. I never had the confidence to actually submit something, however, so there is nothing in this gallery from me. What I did notice, however, was that shortly after I joined, there was a large influx of these rough pencil sketches and things that didn't really look like line art. Being practical, I know I'm not the sole cause of anything...but I certainly hope I didn't influence people to come check out the club and NOT follow the rules. >_< Sometimes it happens, especially since my favorite clubs are displayed on my user page.
Good luck with the clean-up, and may future users read before they post.
I seriously doubt you're at the end of any of the blame here Being in the club even if you don't submit stuff is fine. It's the people who blatantly ignore the submission rules that have me so angry.
Yeah... it's always kind of depressing to me to look through here and see a billion and one so-called "linearts" that are nothing more than pencil sketches or shaded pencil pieces....
As someone else said earlier, if you need any help, please let me know!
Ouch - good luck with that. I wish you swift and virtually painless moderating... I'm a mod myself at another site, and I know it can be trying... Don't forget to breathe, mm?
