'Alien' -- 1979 - 2009

So this message is a bit late in coming, but I wanted to announce that 'Alien,' the first film of the classic sci-fi quadrilogy, has reached the ripe old age of 30 this year.

1979 is when the film was released, and though it had been made on an amazingly low budget with some of the most basic props and special-effects techniques; and though no studio (save for 20th Century Fox) wanted to take on the screenplay, and the film was expected to be a flop-- a B-movie, in essence-- 'Alien' has managed to become one of the best sci-fi/horror/thriller films in history. Its story, characters, and especially its terror-inducing creature have retained their ability to captivate audiences.

Needless to say, it's a great piece of film, culture, and history. So for all of you who are interested (and actually reading this entry, because I know no one does!), how about we honor this great film with our writing and art? Draw something, paint something, create a bit of fanfiction or a scholarly essay-- anything you like! But relate it to the film and then make sure to submit it to the club.
